EnviroWeek – Day 5

Our first MEPS Toy Swap was a great success!

There was certainly a buzz as students waited in anticipation to join in yesterday’s Toy Swap. Our EnvioWeek Leaders did an amazing job running the ‘swap’, with many children leaving the area, just as they would leaving a toy shop.

Of course the main purpose of this event was to encourage students to rethink how they position themselves in this never-ending cycling of consumerism, by sharing, borrowing and of course swapping. It was a a great way for the students to practise some of the 5Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair, Rethink.

Thank you to all students and parents for supporting our first ever Toy Swap. We anticipate our next Toy Swap event will be even bigger and better!

EnviroWeek – Day 3

This morning we received quite a few toys, in preparation for our Toy Swap on Friday. We are very impressed at the quality and condition of the toys dropped off so far. These can still be dropped off, in return for tokens, tomorrow and Friday morning.  Please note: stuffed toys and promotional toys (eg. Coles Little Shop toys) will not be accepted.

Today at lunchtime, our mulching team focused their energies on mulching around the newly planted garden bed running alongside our top car park. The EnviroWeek Leaders did a great job guiding the younger students, teaching them how to apply mulch properly.

Our local native fauna was also very active today with  students discovering a bees nest in the Junior playground area and a bull ant’s nest near the oval. Of course our admirable magpies were doing their best to protect their young, by swooping anyone who seemed to be a threat.

Again, our new sandpit area was super popular today with everyone being very creative and sharing the space with kindness and respect.

Congratulations to Prep/1C for tallying the most Nude Food lunchboxes in their Grade today with Matthew from 5PD taking the individual award.

Enviroweek – Day 2

Well the fun continued in our sandpit today, with lots of our kids negotiating the space and sandpit toys on offer. The mulching team, lead by our very capable Grade 5 & 6 Enviroweek Leaders, made the area look amazing by dumping loads of mulch around the sand pit area.

It was great to see so many kids getting along and working together – enjoying our rejuvenated playground areas!

Congratulations to 4P for tallying the most Nude Food lunchboxes in their Grade today with Jacob from 4S taking the individual award.

Congratulations also to Grade 2W and Spencer from Prep/1C for taking out yesterday’s Nude Food awards.

Enviroweek 2019 – Day 1

EnviroWeek kicked off today with lots of sunshine and smiles!

Many students were kept very busy today as they participated in the ‘Spring Search’ and mulching activities at lunchtime, and of course playing in our refurbished sandpit. We also took our first lot of toys, in return for ‘tokens’ for students to use at our very first Toy Swap, this Friday. We also congratulated our first grade and individual Nude Food winners for the week.

Thank you to those students who helped make our first day of EnviroWeek 2019 a memorable one!

Enviroweek – Day 2

Today, the Green Team kids ran the Grade 3-6 ‘Race-to-Recycle’ event at lunchtime. This activity tested student’s knowledge about waste management, as they raced other teams, to place as many waste items in the correct bins as possible.

The most commonly misplaced item was the take-away coffee cup. The Green Team kids had to explain that these are mostly not recyclable, because they are lined with plastic, to keep them water proof. Of course the lids are recyclable, as they have the ‘recycle’ symbol on it.

Thanks again to Miss Emery for helping the Green Team kids run this activity. The winning team from today’s event will be announced at our next assembly (prizes!)

Congratulations again to yesterday’s individual Nude Food winners. Each of these five winners will be able to come in free dress next Friday. Please see EnviroGirl and Sustainability Boy’s video message below, as they announce today’s Nude Food winners…

Enviroweek – Day 1

What a great day to kick off Enviroweek. The weather was unusually warm for this time of year – perfect for the beginning of this annual event.

Yet again, the ‘Spring Search’ proved to be hugely popular, with over sixty students from Prep to Grade 2 joining-in, in the fun. This activity was organised and run by our Green Team students, with a little help from Fiona and Joan (thanks).

Prep to Grade 2 students enjoyed their search for sixteen different flower types around the veggie patch area and canteen side of the school. First, second and third placed winners will be announced at our next Assembly. Well done to all those who participated!

Of course, our Sustainability Super-heros – EnviroGirl and Sustainability Girl, are back this year to give useful ‘sustainability’ tips, and to announce daily Nude Food winners. Please see the video below for today’s winners!
